The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Ibrahim Lamido of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Sokoto East Senate seat in the National Assembly. INEC Returning Officer Prof. Muhammad Bayawa announced the result in Sokoto on Sunday, stating that Lamido received 112,764 votes, defeating Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Gwanda Shuaibu, who garnered 107,834 votes. Abdullahi Dahiru of the New Nigeria Peoples Party placed a distant third with 410 votes.
In the supplementary elections, the APC also secured eight of the ten House of Representatives seats. In Gudu/Tangaza Federal Constituency, Prof. Muazu Shamaki, the returning officer, declared APC candidate Alhaji Sani Yakubu the winner with 23,473 votes. In Dange‑Shuni/Tureta/Bodinga Federal Constituency, INEC Returning Officer Prof. Chika Muhammad announced APC’s Shehu Nasiru as the victor with 40,994 votes. The incumbent APC candidate Ibrahim Al‑Mustapha won the Wurno/Rabah seat with 23,497 votes, while Bello Ambarura captured the Gwadabawa/Illela seat with 31,374 votes. In Kware/Wamakko Constituency, incumbent APC member Abdullahi Kalambaina prevailed with 43,344 votes. Other APC winners included Bala Abubakar (Sokoto North/Sokoto South), Sa’adu Nabunkari (Binji/Silame), and Jelani Danbuga (Isa/Sabon Birni).
The PDP secured two seats: Abdussamad Dasuki won the Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency, and Bashir Gorau won the Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Aliyu Wamakko of the APC was earlier declared the winner of the Sokoto North Senate seat, while PDP Governor Aminu Tambuwal won the Sokoto South Senate seat. With these results, the APC now holds two Senate seats and eight House of Representatives seats in Sokoto State, while the PDP has one Senate seat and three House seats.
