Police have confirmed the arrest of State Minister for Karamoja, Agnes Nandutu, in connection with the Karamoja iron‑sheet scandal. Deputy police spokesperson Polly Namaye announced on Tuesday evening that the Uganda Police Force obtained a statement from Minister Nandutu regarding ongoing investigations into abuse of office and the theft of iron sheets intended for Karamoja.
On Monday, police reported that Nandutu had ignored a summons to appear at the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in Kibuli on Friday. However, she voluntarily presented herself to police at the CID headquarters in Kibuli on Tuesday. There, detectives took her statement, and she was subsequently detained at Kira Division Police Station. The case file has been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further guidance and possible sanctioning. Police praised Nandutu for turning herself in, noting that it saved resources that would have been spent on locating her.
This development follows the recent arrest of Minister Amos Lugoloobi, who was taken into custody on Friday along the Entebbe Expressway, arraigned before the Anti‑Corruption Court in Kololo, and later remanded to Luzira pending a bail decision. Another minister, Mary Goretti Kitutu, has also been charged in relation to the Karamoja iron‑sheet corruption scandal.
