Court orders Ondo Assembly to reinstate ex-deputy speaker

Ondo State House of Assembly

The Ondo State High Court has ordered the state House of Assembly to reinstate Mr Iroju Ogundeji as the deputy speaker of the Assembly.

The leadership of the House in 2020 removed Ogundeji as a deputy speaker of the Assembly following his disagreement with the House leadership.

After his removal, the Assembly later appointed Mr Samuel Aderoboye as the deputy speaker. The latter was still occupying the position until the court judgment on Wednesday.

The embattled lawmaker had approached the court to challenge his removal.

Delivering her judgment, the judge, Justice Adetan Osadebe, dismissed the removal of the plaintiff and nullified the action of the Assembly, describing it as illegal.
