In a bid to preserve the history and culture of the civilisation of the Yoruba people of Ile-Ife, a book titled, ‘Ile-Ife, Cradle of the World’ has been unveiled.
The book, which focuses on history, culture, tourism and business, was written by the Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica, Dr Maureen Tamuno.
Speaking at the unveiling of the book on Monday in Lagos at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, commended Tamuno for writing about Ife, describing the author as an energetic go-getter, who has done exceptionally well as a politician in a male-dominated environment.
The monarch said, “When Her Excellency came to me and said she wanted to write a book about Ife, I told her that I was already compiling the real three dynasties of Ife, that has lasted for more than 1,000 years.
“She said, ‘Kabiyesi, let’s not wait for that; Ife has so much content; let’s achieve a small coffee table extra here and there and she came up with this coffee book, it was all her idea.”
Also speaking at the even, the Jamaican High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Esmond Reid, said the book speaks a lot about the importance of development in human civilisation.
The envoy said, “This is a very significant occasion because the story of the black people doesn’t always get told and even when it is told, it gets distorted and so it’s very good when we have people who do good research and they ensure that we hear it.”
The author, Tamuno, said, “This book was written to inspire, encourage and reaffirm the connecting of the branches to the roots.”
