Kogi CJ orders release of prison inmate in Kabba

Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Josiah Majebi, has ordered the release of a prison inmate at Kabba custodian centre, Suleiman Adamu, unconditionally.

Justice Majebi said the inmate had no reason to remain in custody since the case levelled against him could not be substantiated.

The Chief Judge maintained that granting bail should be done when and where necessary.

He commended the staff of the custodial centre for their commitment to duty, assuring that the judiciary would continue to do more in the interest of justice.

AccThe CJ said the visit to prisons will be on a regular basis to ascertain the true position of things.

He thereafter made a modest donation to the centre for the upkeep of inmates.

Earlier, the Officer in Charge of the Kabba correctional centre, Shaibu Ishaku noted that they were faced with various challenges, including logistics.

Ishaku expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge for the visit and his benevolence, assuring that the staff of the centre would continue to remain committed to duty.

The Kabba Correctional Centre has a total of two hundred and fifty-seven inmates, out of which fifty have been convicted.
