UNIJOS graduates 20,532 students as 112 bags first class

The University of Jos, Plateau State, will on Saturday graduate a total of 20,532 students at its 33rd and 34th convocation ceremony.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishaya Tanko, who disclosed this on Wednesday during a pre-convocation press briefing, said out of the number, 112 of the students would graduate with first-class Honors.

The VC said during the convocation, various categories of students would be awarded different degrees as well.

According to him, the degrees comprised 159 PhDs, 3,669 Masters, 281 postgraduate diplomas, 11, 281 Bachelors, and 5,142 from affiliate institutions.

He added that, “For the Second Class Honors (Upper Division), we have  3,093 graduating students and for the Second Class (Lower Division), we have 6,325. For the Third Class category, we have 1,361, and 281 students will graduate with Pass Division while Pass qualified for Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine program is 109.”

Tanko further stated that the high point of the convocation ceremony would be the investiture of His Highness, Mallam Nuhu Bamali, Emir of Zauzau, as the new Chancellor of the University of Jos.

He noted that the Chancellor would be conferred with the Doctor of Laws Degree (LL.D.) Honoris Causa alongside two other eminent Nigerians – a former Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Elias Bogoro, will be conferred with a Doctor of Science while the former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, will receive Doctors of Letters.
