U-17 AFCON: Omeruo rues Golden Eaglets defeat to Burkina Faso

Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has expressed disappointment following the Golden Eaglets shocking ouster from the ongoing 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations in Algeria.

The Golden Eaglets were eliminated from the competition following a 2-1 defeat to the Burkinabes at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers on Thursday night.

Nduka Ugbade’s side will also not feature at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup later in the year as a result of their exit at the quarter-final stage.

Omeruo, who was a member of the Golden Eaglets side that came second at the 2009 edition of the U-17 World Cup hosted by Nigeria has backed the players to conquer the world in future.

The Leganes of Spain centre-back also canvassed for the players to be mentored.

“It was sad not to see these boys progress to the next stage and also to the World Cup.. so many bright talents in this team. I just hope they are not abandoned.. and I know for sure a lot of them will play to their highest potentials… and I hope they are encouraged in defeat as well,” Omeruo wrote on his Twitter handle.
