Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Veteran Actor Saint Obi

Nigerians are still in shock as news of the passing of veteran Nollywood actor, Saint Obi, spreads throughout the entertainment industry. The 57-year-old actor, whose real name was Obinna Nwafor, was reported to have died after a prolonged illness on May 7th.

Since the announcement of his death, fans and family members have taken to social media to express their sadness and pay their last respects. The hashtags #RIPSaintObi and #ObinnaNwafor have been trending on Twitter, with thousands of people sharing their memories of the beloved actor.

Renowned Nigerian author and social media influencer, Reno Omokri, took to Twitter to share a photo of himself with Saint Obi from 2014. In the caption, he described the actor as “the gentlest and most noble Nollywood actor I ever met,” adding that he was “the specimen of gentlemanliness.” Omokri went on to offer his condolences to the family and fans of the late actor.

Ahmed Garba, a Nigerian politician and former Presidential aspirant, also expressed his sadness at the loss of Saint Obi. In his tweet, he described the actor as someone who “filled our screens with [his] talent for decades.”

One Twitter user, Mr Sanusi Dantata, reminisced about his encounter with the actor on a flight to London in 1999, saying that Saint Obi was “so nice” to him and his siblings. Dantata went on to describe the actor as a “legend” and offered his condolences to his family and loved ones.

Saint Obi was a prolific actor, film producer and film director, and was popular for his roles in movies such as State of Emergency, Candle Light, Sakobi, and Goodbye Tomorrow. He majored in Theatre Arts at the University of Jos and made his acting debut in 1996 via a Peugeot television commercial.

Over the course of his career, Saint Obi starred in over 60 movies and produced several others. In 2001, he produced and starred in his first movie, Take Me to Maama, alongside Ebi Sam, Rachel Oniga, Nse Abel, and the late Enebeli Elebuwa.

Nigerians and fans of Nollywood alike are mourning the loss of this talented actor, who brought joy and entertainment to millions through his work. Saint Obi’s legacy will live on through his impressive body of work, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
