Chelsea Owners Admit Firing Tuchel was a Mistake – Boehly

The Chelsea owners have confessed to making a mistake in sacking Thomas Tuchel last September, according to reports from the Daily Mail. Tuchel was axed just a few games into the season by the co-ownership tenure of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. However, in a recent turn of events, Boehly seems to think he may have made an unwise decision.

At the time of Tuchel’s firing, Graham Potter, from Premier League rivals Brighton, was quickly brought in, but he, too, was dismissed after just seven months in charge. In hindsight, it has been opined that it would have been better to retain Tuchel for a season to ensure a more orderly and smoother transition.

While it is acknowledged that the relationship with Tuchel was not sustainable in the long run, the Chelsea owners believe that they overcompensated in appointing Potter because of his ability to work well with executives and owners.

Frank Lampard was put in interim charge of the Blues, and a deal has now been agreed upon with Mauricio Pochettino to become the new permanent boss. The American co-owners, however, may rue the day they fired Tuchel, as his triumphs with Chelsea FC have been well documented, including the recent Champions League while in charge.
