ZEFA Bank Staff Arrested for Pushing Debtor’s Wife to Her Death

Four staff members of ZEFA Microfinance Bank have been apprehended by the police for pushing Vivian Omo, a woman in her 50s, to her death. The incident occurred at the Abule Ijoko Lemode area of Ifo local government area of Ogun state. The victim’s husband was a debtor to the bank, and the suspects had gone to their home to retrieve the defaulter’s possessions.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the bank staff were dissatisfied with Vivian Omo’s explanation about her husband’s whereabouts and attempted to touch his electronics in their home. This led to an altercation between the late Mrs Omo and the bank staff, which resulted in her being pushed to the ground, leading to her death.

After the incident was reported, the police apprehended the four suspects identified as Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi, and Femi Oloko, and have commenced investigations into the matter. The Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered for the suspects to be transferred to the Homicide Section of the state Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning.

In the wake of the incident, the Commissioner of Police has also warned loan agencies against taking the law into their hands in their bid to recover loans from debtors. He stated that any institution or person caught in such an act would be apprehended and prosecuted.

The remains of Vivian Omo have been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital morgue pending an autopsy. This regrettable incident highlights the dangers of unprofessional debt recovery practices and the need for financial institutions to ensure that their staff are properly trained to handle such delicate situations.
