Tajudeen Abbas, an aspirant running for the Speaker position of the House of Representatives has been endorsed by several governors. Abbas met with Katsina State Governor, Aminu Maisari and Governor-elect, Umar Radda, both of whom endorsed him for the position. Abbas was also endorsed by Benjamin Kalu for the Deputy Speaker position. The endorsement was made in line with the All Progressives Congress party’s decision to zone the Speaker position to the north-west region of Nigeria.
According to the Tajudeen Abbas Campaign Office, Senator Adamu Aliero, a former Governor of Kebbi State also endorsed Abbas for the Speaker position. Abbas had visited the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as part of his campaign tour.
Abbas’ team has been working hard to galvanize support from governors across Nigeria to support his ambition to become Speaker. Some members-elect from various parts of Nigeria were also present during Abbas’ visits to the governors.
A former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; Governor Bello Matawalle and Senator Kabiru Marafa have criticized an aspirant for the Speaker position, Sani Jaji, claiming that he was responsible for the presidential victory of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Zamfara State. In response, a pressure group within the ruling party, the APC National Defence Coalition faulted their claims, stating that it was incorrect.
The race for the Speaker of the House of Representatives position has become increasingly competitive and highly contested as aspirants lobby for support each day. Tajudeen Abbas is continuing with his campaign to rally more support ahead of the election.
