Police Conduct Raid on Seun Kuti’s Home, Seize Wife’s Phone

The Lagos State Police Command has conducted a search operation in the home of the popular musician, Seun Kuti. The search was conducted to find evidence linking him to a separate crime, and during the raid, the security operatives seized Kuti’s wife’s mobile phone. The action came hours after Kuti was granted bail by a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

A video circulating on social media shows the moment the police operatives were conducting the search at the embattled singer’s house which is situated at Akin Osiyemi, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

Last week, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, ordered the arrest of Seun Kuti after he allegedly slapped a police officer on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Writing on his social media page, Kuti had alleged that the arrest was a plot by the police to detain him “for speaking the truth”. His supporters have taken to social media to condemn the incident, calling it a clampdown on his freedom of speech.

This development raises questions on the legality of the search conducted, given that Kuti was already in custody. It also raises concerns on the need for proper protocols in search operations, as innocent people could be affected.

As at the time of this report, no official statement has been released regarding the details of the search operation.
