The Clouds Gather: Why Godswill Akpabio May Not Secure Senate Presidency – Atiku Abubakar Aide

Daniel Bwala, an aide of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the just concluded February 25 election, has claimed that former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, will not be elected as Senate President.

Bwala made this declaration on Monday via his Twitter handle, citing that the “cloud gathering against his aspiration is heavy and thick”.

Although Akpabio, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been penciled down by his party to become the Senate President, he currently faces opposition from senators such as Ali Ndume, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Jibrin Barau.

However, Bwala has claimed that the potential loss of Akpabio’s candidacy is not motivated by religion, but instead by regionalism and a desire among the coalition of foes to seek revenge. He also noted that “most of the senators following him are not with him”.

As the race for Senate President continues, it remains to be seen whether Akpabio’s ambition will fall victim to the “heavy and thick” clouds gathering against him.
