Malawi’s Ministry of Health Confident in Vaccinating Over 9 Million Children

The Ministry of Health in Malawi is confident in exceeding its goal of vaccinating over nine million children in a mass immunisation campaign against rubella, typhoid, measles and polio. The campaign commenced on Monday and its targets are children aged from one day to 14 years old.

The seven-day integrated immunisation campaign was launched in conjunction with the World Health Organization, PATH, GAVI Vaccine Alliance and UNICEF. The Health Ministry spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe, stated that by the end of the campaign on Sunday, the goal is to have reached at least nine million children across the country.

Chikumbe added that a mop-up campaign will be launched to reach children who may have missed the initial round of immunisations due to unforeseen circumstances. The mop-up exercise is expected to commence after the assessment of the first round of immunistations.
