Minister of Interior emphasizes investment and staff welfare for improved security

The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has highlighted the importance of investment and better staff welfare in improving security in the country. Speaking at the unveiling of the reconstructed Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps parade ground, staff quarters, and office complex for retired civil defence officers in Abuja, Aregbesola emphasized that such investments and improvements are critical for better performance, especially in the security sector.

Representing Aregbesola, the Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore, stated that the new parade ground would significantly improve training and increase productivity for the Corps, which will enable them to tackle the emerging security threats in the country. He added that sister and other security agencies could also utilize the facility for training purposes.

Belgore also noted that addressing staff housing and welfare needs is crucial for enhancing performance. The newly constructed staff quarters will go a long way in addressing the staff’s housing needs and motivate them for better performance. He further emphasized that employee well-being significantly impacts work performance.

The Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Audi, also commented on how the parade ground and staff quarters would enhance productivity and performance. Audi emphasized that regimentation training, which combines physical training and capacity building, instills discipline in personnel. Therefore, the renovated parade ground will provide a standard that is equivalent to worldwide standards, which will be beneficial to the Corps.

In conclusion, Aregbesola applauded the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for their commitment to safeguard Nigerian citizens and ensure a better and safer environment for everyone. He urged the Corps to utilize the government’s logistical and material support to improve the country’s security architecture continually.
