Adunni Ade Clears the Air on Late Murphy Afolabi’s Alleged Debt

Nollywood actress, Adunni Ade, has finally addressed the allegations levelled against her for owing her deceased colleague and filmmaker, Murphy Afolabi, N250,000.

Following the 8-day fidau prayer held in Lagos for the late actor, a video went viral, where Afolabi’s burial committee called out the actress to refund the money she owed the deceased director before his death.

However, in a public statement accompanied by her bank account details, the actress had refuted the reports of being indebted to the late Afolabi.

The statement explained that the late Afolabi requested the actress’ services in July 2021 for a self-funded movie production, which he could not afford her professional fee. Instead, they agreed on an honorarium of N150,000 to cover fuel and compensation for playing ten scenes for a day on set.

The statement further revealed that Adunni Ade lost her younger brother a few days before the project’s commencement and sought to refund the payment to the deceased actor. Still, he insisted that she hold onto the money while he figures out the next step for the movie project.

Mr. Murphy Afolabi later reached out to the actress in October 2021, requesting her professional service to play the lead role for four days with the same honorarium of N150,000. Adunni Ade declined respectfully and refunded the money to Afolabi’s account on the same day.

It is no news that the movie industry has lost a great contributor in Murphy Afolabi, and this contributes to the barrage of emotional stories in the film industry.
