BREAKING: Fire guts Kano Police Command headquarters

The Kano Police Command headquarters, Bompai has been razed down by fire on Saturday afternoon.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the fire started from the Provost Office and spread to Finance Department, Conference Room, PPRO Office, Assistant Commissioner (Admin) Office, Deputy Commissioner (Admin) Office, among other offices.

It was gathered that all the offices at the top floor of the 1967 building were engulfed by the fire, except the office of the commissioner.

“We made efforts to quench the fire from the Provost Office using manual process but the inferno quickly spread to other offices. The fire fighters arrived nearly 2 hours after the fire started,” a source told DAILY NIGERIAN.

In a statement after the fire was brought under control, the spokesman for the command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said no life was lost and the records are intact.

Mr Kiyawa said investigation over the incident had begun.

“Today, 14/01/2023, a fire engulfed the first floor of Kano State Police Command’s Headquarters Bompai Administrative Block.

“No life was lost and no injury was recorded. The fire was brought under control by firefighters.

“His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna visited the scene, sympathize with the NPF, the IGP, the AIG Zone 1 who was also present at the scene, CP Mamman Dauda, psc(+) and officers and men of Kano Police Command, and on behalf of Kano State Government promised to assist.

“Offices razed by the inferno include; Provost Office, DC Finance and Admin Office, AC Admin Office, AC Operations Office, Finance Offices and PPRO’s Office among others. Command’s records are intact. An investigation has commenced,” he added.
