EFCC Cautions Nigerians Against Falling Victim to Fake Scam Alert from Fraudsters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about the activities of fraudulent individuals using a fake EFCC Help Desk to disseminate scam alerts. These scam alerts often come in the form of fake phone calls claiming to be from the EFCC Help Desk.

In a statement released in Abuja, Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman for the commission clarified that the trending “Scam Alert” on social media was fake. He further emphasized that the EFCC does not have a help desk and therefore, any information attributed to the purported EFCC Help Desk should be considered fraudulent. He warned that the use of EFCC’s name by the authors of the Scam Alert was a clear indication of their malicious intent.

The commission further warned that it would not be held responsible should anyone fall victim to this scam. The EFCC advised the public to be vigilant and to verify any suspicious information with the anti-graft agency.
