Yewa Defenders Demand Attention from Governor Abiodun

On Wednesday, indigenes of Ogun West under the umbrella of the Yewa Defender Organisation stormed the Oke Mosan office of Governor Dapo Abiodun. Their aim was to make their demands known ahead of his second term in office inauguration. The group congratulated the governor on his victory and pointed out that they had shown him support by voting for him in the five local governments in their area. These are Ado-Odo/Ota, Imeko-Afon, Yewa North, Yewa South, and Ipokia local government areas.

The Ogun West indigenes went on to state that despite the significant vote of confidence they gave to the governor, their senatorial district was lagging behind in terms of development projects in the state.

The major reason for their visit to the Governor’s office was, therefore, to call attention to the need to rehabilitate Ogun West. This, they believe, will give it the necessary attention it deserves in the coming second term of the governor.

With banners in their hands, members of the Yewa Defender Organisation converged on the Deputy Governor’s Wing of the State Secretariat to make their demands. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr Akeem Ayeteru said that Yewaland had been neglected, to the detriment of its socio-economic development. It is disheartening that despite being the industrial hub and the government’s cash cow, Ogun West’s essential amenities, including roads, hospitals, and educational institutions, have been deliberately neglected for far too long.

According to Ayeteru, Governor Abiodun needs to fix this long-standing imbalance. The retired immigration officer emphasized the need for basic infrastructure and better healthcare in Ogun West. He also expressed concerns over erratic power supply and clashes between Fulani herdsmen and host communities, which have claimed several lives in the region.
