Former Lawmaker Shehu Sani Defends Senator Kashim Shettima’s Double Nomination

Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has expressed his support for Senator Kashim Shettima’s decision to purchase nomination forms for the Senate ahead of the 2023 general election.

Sani said that there was nothing wrong with Senator Shettima’s decision, despite criticisms he has faced lately. Shettima had earlier been nominated as the running mate of President-elect Bola Tinubu before purchasing the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest for a Senate seat.

Sani cited the examples of Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and Senator Godswill Akpabio, who both contested for both the presidency and senatorial positions in the past.

He argued that if it was acceptable for them to seek multiple nominations, there was no reason why Shettima should not be allowed to do the same.

Sani maintained that every Nigerian had the right to contest for any position they wished, regardless of whether they had previously been nominated or not.

He concluded by expressing his confidence that the Supreme Court would not rule against Senator Shettima’s double nomination.

The controversy surrounding Senator Shettima’s actions has caused a stir in the political community. Nevertheless, Sani’s show of support may bring some clarity to the issue.
