Supreme Court to Rule on PDP’s Petition Against Tinubu-Shettima’s Victory

The Supreme Court’s ruling today has plunged Nigerians into a state of apprehension with regards to the victory of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Today, the Supreme Court will decide on the validity of Tinubu’s victory over accusations of double nomination by his running mate, Kashim Shettima on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Media Talk Africa, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is asking for Tinubu and the Vice-President-elect, Shettima’s disqualification over alleged double nomination, claiming that the act violates the electoral laws.

The PDP based their appeal on the claims that the appellate court erred in law when it dismissed their appeal and endorsed the judgment of a trial court, which deemed the suit incompetent and lacking in merit.

The PDP also pointed out that the ruling party violated the law by nominating Shettima as the senatorial candidate for Borno Central and as the vice-presidential candidate.

However, Nigerians are anxious about the Supreme Court’s forthcoming ruling.

Tinubu is expected to be inaugurated on May 29th, as the next Nigerian President, but the decision of the apex court might make or ruin the proceedings.

Speaking ahead of the Supreme Court’s verdict, Chuks Ibegbu, a public affairs analyst, urged Nigerians to remain calm, emphasizing the decision of the Supreme Court is ultimate.

Ibegbu advised Nigerians to avoid any activity that might trigger unrest after the announcement of the verdict. He urged politicians not to sow discord amongst Nigerians, stating that everyone should prioritize peaceful co-existence, despite any political affiliations.
