Nigeria’s U-20 Team Aims to End Brazil’s Dominance at the World Cup

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Brazil U-20 in the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Argentina, as they aim to record their first win against the five-time winners of the competition. This will be the seventh time both teams will be meeting at the U-20 level, boosting hopes for the Nigerian team to end Brazil’s previous four victories.

Nigeria’s debut appearance at the U-20 World Cup was in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1983, where they lost 3-0 to Brazil. The Selecao was also victorious at the 1985 and 1987 editions, defeating the Flying Eagles 2-0 and 4-0, respectively.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for Nigeria, as both teams battled to a goalless draw in their first Group F match at the 2005 finals in the Netherlands. Similarly, they held Brazil to a 1-1 draw at the 2013 edition in Turkey, with the most recent encounter in 2015, ending in a 4-2 victory for Brazil.

While Nigeria seeks to secure top spot in Group D with a win or draw, Brazil will be hoping for a vital win to book a place in the last 16. In their last game against Dominican Republic, Brazil won 6-0, and hopes are high for a repeat performance against Nigeria.

Flying Eagles coach, Ladan Bosso, is optimistic about his team’s chances and has expressed confidence that they will end their winless runs against the South American giants. “We acknowledge that Brazil has always been a hard nut to crack for our team at this level,” Bosso said in a statement from the Nigerian Football Federation. “But there is always a first time. We are riding on a wave of robust confidence.”

Meanwhile, Brazil U-20 star, Matheus Martins, is confident that his team will secure victory against Nigeria and qualify for the round of sixteen. “We are Brazil, and we go in to always win,” he said.

This match between the two teams will be an exciting one, as Nigeria seeks to make history by defeating Brazil at the U-20 level, while Brazil aims to maintain their dominance of the Flying Eagles. Either way, it will be a thrilling encounter.
