Osun Police Assures Residents of Safety Amid Yoruba Nation Agitations

The Osun State Police Command has given assurance to residents of the state and media organizations that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent the breakdown of law and order. This statement was made by CP Patrick Kehinde Longe, the Commissioner of Police, in a release signed by the command’s Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola on Sunday.

The police’s assurance comes in the light of recent attacks on a radio station in Ibadan, Oyo State, by the Yoruba Nation agitators. The command warned all mischief-makers planning to foment trouble to jettison the idea, adding that security agencies will use all legal means to uphold democratic processes in the state and Nigeria as a whole.

The Yoruba Nation agitators had earlier attacked Radio Nigeria, Amuludun 99.1FM, in Moniya, Ibadan on Sunday morning. The radio station’s General Manager, Stephen Agbaje, disclosed that the attackers occupied the station for a while before security operatives apprehended and arrested five of the agitators from the Oyo State Police Command.

In a statement, the Osun State Police Command said:

“The Osun State Police Command is using this medium to assure the general public, especially media houses, of adequate security measures put in place to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state as the police command is aware of what is happening in our neighboring state concerning the Yoruba Nation Agitators who attempted to hijack one radio station in the early hours of today 28th May, 2023. At the same time, the police command is using the same medium to warn all disgruntled elements that may have the mind of truncating the democratic process of the transition of power to jettison the idea forthwith as security agencies will use all legal means to uphold the democratic process in the state and in Nigeria as a whole.”

The Commissioner of Police further challenged the general public to continue with their lawful businesses while remaining law-abiding citizens.
