At the swearing-in ceremony of the new Abia State governor, Alex Otti, a young female police officer collapsed at Umuahia Township Stadium during the special police parade organised by the Abia State Police Command.

The policewoman reportedly collapsed twice while the parade was ongoing, with the first collapse leading to her being assisted back on her feet to continue the march. However, she collapsed again, this time losing consciousness and needing medical attention.

Medical attention was quickly administered, and she regained consciousness about 10 minutes later. The medical team from the Nigerian Red Cross and the Medical Committee of the Alex Otti Inauguration then took her to an undisclosed hospital in Umuahia for further treatment.

The incident raised concerns among the onlookers and officials present at the inauguration regarding the conditions and welfare of the police officers in service. Questions have been raised about what led to the officer’s collapse, and possible investigations may be carried out to ascertain what happened.

As of the time of this report, the police authority in the state has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
