Former Governor Ortom Debunks Alleged Impending EFCC Arrest

Samuel Ortom, the immediate past governor of Benue State, has responded to reports circulating on social media that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed officials to arrest him. The unconfirmed report alleged that EFCC officials had arrived at the Benue State capital on Sunday night. The report claimed that the arrest is being carried out on the invitation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State. The plan is to use EFCC to take Ortom to Abuja, where he will be later transferred to Lagos and subjected to severe torture, the report alleged.

Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, said there was no cause for alarm as his principal has nothing to hide. Akase said, “Governor Ortom has repeatedly said that he ran a transparent administration and is willing to honor the invitation of any anti-corruption agency that wants to get clarifications on operations of his administration.”

Ortom presented his handover notes to the new governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Allia, on Sunday, 28th May, 2023. With this development, the former governor has lost his immunity.
