Tinubu inherits over N16tn uncompleted projects

Former Lagos State Governor and National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has inherited over N16tn worth of uncompleted projects from previous administrations in Lagos State.

The inherited projects include the Lagos Metro Rail Transit Blue Line, which has been in abeyance since the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola. The project, according to available records, is expected to cost about $1.2bn.

Other major projects awaiting completion include the Adiyan Waterworks II, which has been under construction since 2013. The water treatment plant, which was expected to provide potable water to over four million residents, is yet to be completed after billions of naira had already been expended on it.

Also, there is the Lagos State Cardiovascular and Thoracic Centre, which was commissioned in 2013 but is yet to commence operation.

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway, which is a crucial gateway to the West African subregion, is another project that has been left uncompleted by past administrations in Lagos State. The road has been in a deplorable state for years, causing traffic gridlock and accidents.

Apart from the above-listed projects, several other projects in the education, health and other sectors are yet to be completed despite the huge investments made in them.

Observers have expressed concern over the state of these projects and the need for urgent action to complete them. While some have called on the Lagos State Government to immediately release funds for their completion, others have urged the Federal Government to provide support for the projects.

In the meantime, Tinubu, who is widely expected to run for presidency in 2023, has a daunting task ahead of him to complete these projects and address the infrastructure deficit in Lagos State.
