Fuel subsidy: Provide measures to reduce the suffering of Rivers people – APC to Gov Fubara

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has asked the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to provide measures that will mitigate the suffering occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy for Rivers people.

The spokesman of the APC in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, said governance should not be regarded as a chieftaincy coronation, but rather as a position to help the people.

Nwauju advised the state government to invest in power provision, as it will save local businesses from collapsing.

He said, “Governance is not a chieftaincy ceremony. The Rivers State Governor must put on his thinking cap, roll up his sleeves and come up with viable counterbalancing and concomitant measures to mitigate the impact of this subsidy removal on our people.

“And, there can be no better time to focus on investing massively in mass transportation infrastructure, to save Rivers people than now.

“It is very obvious that the economic impact occasioned by the spiraling cost of transportation is better imagined.

“Again, investing in power infrastructure will be key to saving local businesses from cutting down on their workforce, due to the high energy cost.

“The time to walk the talk is now.”
