From Faffing to a Multi-Billion Dollar Industry: Davido on the Evolution of Afrobeats

Davido, the renowned Nigerian afrobeats superstar, recently reflected on the evolution of the genre during his 12 years at the top of the industry. He pointed out that the African music industry has transformed from a poorly-funded industry to a multi-billion dollar industry which is now changing lives and communities.

Speaking during an interview with the Native Now Magazine, Davido noted that the afrobeats of now is different from what it was years ago. According to him, it has grown beyond just making amazing music and a lot of money to becoming a platform that is changing lives.

He added that afrobeats artists are now making not only millions of dollars but are also making significant impacts in communities across Africa and beyond.

“Afrobeats now and then are different, it’s a multi-billion dollar industry, he said. “You can’t compare it to years ago when we were just faffing around. We were making amazing music and a lot of money but now people are changing communities, changing lives.

Davido, who recently released his much-anticipated album, ‘A Better Time’, is one of the leading voices in the afrobeats industry, with several awards and nominations to his name. His music career has spanned over a decade and has seen him collaborate with international superstars such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, and Drake.

With the rise of afrobeats, the genre has become a cultural force in Africa, as well as in various parts of the world. Davido’s testimony is one of several that demonstrate the huge impact of the afrobeats industry, which has transformed the music scene and created opportunities for talented artists across the continent.
