The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State is speaking out about the absence of democracy dividends in the lives of residents, despite efforts made during June 12. In a statement released on Sunday, the opposition party encouraged the people to remain resilient and maintain hope that positive change is coming.
The PDP claims that Lagos has yet to enjoy the true fruits of democracy that Chief MKO Abiola and the June 12, 1993 elections promised, under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party’s Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, stated that Lagos is a resource-rich state, with human and natural resources that should reflect in its development, yet little can be said about the improvement in the state’s infrastructure, education, and health sectors.
“In comparison with other megacities across the world,” Amode said, “the Lagos authorities have failed to lift Lagos to an enviable level.” The PDP gave its assurance that once it assumes power, the wealth of Lagos residents will be used directly for development, promising that Lagosians would enjoy the fruits of their labor when the PDP assumes office.
As Lagosians continue to hope for a brighter future, the PDP has issued a call to action for the current leadership to account for their promises and for residents to remain patient as they advocate for better governance.
