Popular Nigerian media personality, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, has labelled himself as an “old cat” in the hosting section of the entertainment industry, teasing up-and-coming personalities like Bovi. The whole “cat” episode emerged following a viral video of Afrobeats singer Davido’s interview with Brut Afrique where he referred to Burna Boy, Rema, Asake, Fireboy DML, Mayorkun and others as “new cats”. Taking part in the trend, Ebuka quoted Davido verbatim. He expressed gladness in seeing new young talents emerging like Bovi, even though he claimed to be one of the first to blow the hosting gig. The Big Brother Naija host’s quote roused Bovi’s laughter, causing him to mimic the sound of a cat, “Meow meow.” In recent times, a lot of people on social media have joined in on the “cat” trend, by introducing other classifications like the “stray cat,” “once upon a cat,” and several others. The trend has stirred up a range of reactions among fans and artistes alike. The entertainment industry in Nigeria is growing at a fast pace, with more young individuals making their mark in various sectors. But there still exists a reverence for the veterans who have helped shape the industry to what it is today.
