Omokri Opposes Akpabio’s Emergence as Senate President, Citing Imbalance in Government

The election of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th Senate has elicited a response from former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri.

According to a report by Media Talk Africa, Akpabio emerged as the winner of the fiercely contested election which was held on Tuesday. However, Omokri has publicly opposed his victory, citing an imbalance in the government in favour of Southern Nigeria.

In a tweet via his Twitter handle, Omokri stated that it was wrong for the 10th Senate to have elected any Southerner as Senate President, as this would further accentuate the imbalance in the government.

“The head of the executive, President Tinubu, is from the Southwest. The head of the judiciary, Justice Ariwoola, is also from the Southwest. Now, the head of the legislature, Akpabio, is from the South-South.

“If you were a Northerner, how would you feel? Yes, Buhari did it. And we complained. We were not happy. If we keep quiet now, are we not as hypocritical as those who justified Buhari’s Northernisation policy?” Omokri wrote.

It is noteworthy that Akpabio’s emergence as Senate President has led to mixed reactions, with some describing it as a positive development, while others have kicked against it, citing issues of balance in government.
