Moses Odunwa Emerges as Ebonyi Assembly Speaker

The Ebonyi State 7th House of Assembly has elected its principal officers with Moses Odunwa of Ikwo South constituency emerging as the Speaker and Chinedu Onah of Ohaukwu South constituency as the Deputy Speaker.

The Speaker’s emergence was unopposed as he was nominated by the member representing Edda West, Nkemka Okoro Onumara, and seconded by Godwin Abiri of Izzi West. Onah, on the other hand, was unanimously elected the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Other principal officers elected include Kingsley Ikoro of Afikpo West as the Leader of the House, Joseph Ununu of Abakaliki North as the Deputy Leader, Nkemka Okoro Onuma of Edda West as the Chief Whip and Lucas Chukwu of Ishielu South as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House.

The clerk of the House, Patricia Anasi, confirmed that the election of the principal officers was carried out in line with the provisions of Section 92 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

It is noteworthy that out of the 24 members of the House of Assembly, 18 are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while the remaining members are from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Labour Party (LP).
