The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, has called for a partnership with the National Productivity Center (NPC) to effectively implement its Performance Management System (PMS) aimed at promoting employees’ accountability in the area of service delivery.

Dr. Yemi-Esan made this appeal in Abuja on Monday while receiving the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) from the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ms. Kachallom Daju, with assistance from the Director-General of NPC, Dr. Raji Mustapha.

The Head of Service expressed her pleasure in assuming the role during a time when the civil service was ripe for change.

She emphasized the importance of collaborating with the NPC in the ongoing implementation of the PMS, which she described as “a substantial task” aimed at instilling a culture of productivity, ensuring that employees are assessed based on set targets, rather than the customary practice of undeserved promotions.

Yemi-Esan further commended the NPC for linking productivity with wages, stating that this approach would facilitate the identification of deserving workers for salary increments, thereby curbing the incessant demand for pay raises without corresponding effort.

She also reiterated her office’s willingness to provide assistance in areas deemed necessary.

During the Award Ceremony, Dr. Mustapha, the Director-General of NPC, praised the Head of Service for introducing creative solutions to enhance the civil service.

Presenting the award, Ms. Daju, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, thanked Yemi-Esan for initiating commendable reforms that were transforming the civil service into a world-class institution.

Ms. Daju presented the HoS with a plaque award, medal, lapel pin, and a letter conferring her with the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) in recognition of her exceptional leadership and remarkable contributions to the growth and development of the Federal Civil Service.
