Two Commissioner-Nominees Absent as Oyo Lawmakers Confirm Five

In a surprising turn of events, two out of the seven nominees for commissioner positions in Oyo State were absent during their screening by the Oyo State House of Assembly. This occurred despite the lawmakers fixing the date for the screening to be Tuesday.

The absentees, Professor Musbau Babatunde and Mrs. Toyin Balogun, failed to submit their credentials to the lawmakers as instructed. Meanwhile, the other five nominees appeared before the plenary on Tuesday and were subsequently confirmed by the lawmakers.

The confirmed commissioner-nominees include Professor Daud Sangodoyin, former Commissioner for Works and Transport; Alhaja Joke Sanni, former Commissioner for Women Affairs; Barrister Seun Ashamu, former Commissioner for Energy; Mr. Akinola Ojo, former Finance Commissioner; and Mr. Adeniyi Adebisi, former Commissioner in charge of Commerce, Trade, and Investment.

During the confirmation, Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin, emphasized the importance of the nominees not disappointing the trust and confidence Governor Seyi Makinde had placed in them.

This unusual turn of events has left many wondering about the reasons behind the absence of the two nominees and the implications it may have on their future appointments.
