The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja on the civil rights claim filed by the former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Dibu Ojerinde.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Commission’s spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, the court has imposed a fine of N1 million in damages and a cost of N200,000 respectively, holding ICPC responsible for the arrest and detention of Ojerinde over alleged corrupt practices.
The Commission, however, vehemently disagrees with the court’s ruling and has made it clear that it will be appealing the decision.
According to ICPC, they had obtained a valid warrant from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court on December 6th, 2022, before apprehending Ojerinde.
It is important to recall that Ojerinde stands accused of using multiple false names, aliases, and forged means of identification, such as Akanbi Lamidi, Adeniyi Banji, Habibulahi Lamidi, Joshua Olaniran Olakuleyin, among others, in perpetrating corrupt practices through various bank accounts. Despite these allegations, he continues to wield resources and influence, enabling him to evade justice.
Undeterred by the court’s ruling, ICPC affirms its commitment to discharging its responsibilities diligently and professionally.
