INEC to conduct by-elections in 4 constituencies

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has disclosed plans to conduct four by-elections across the country.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the elections will hold in four federal and state constituencies.

The election is coming a few months after the conduct of the 2023 general election.

The chairman of the commission, Mahmoud Yakubu, who disclosed this during a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs on Tuesday said the election was a result of deaths and resignations of the lawmakers.

He said: β€œEven as we commence our review of the conduct of the 2023 General Election and barely a few weeks after the inauguration of the National and State Houses of Assembly, we are already confronted with four by-elections as a result of resignation in the case of Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State and death in respect of Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State, Chibok State Constituency of Borno State, and Chikun State Constituency of Kaduna State.”

Mr Yakubu said INEC would soon commence the regular stakeholder engagement ahead of the off-cycle elections.
