The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has recently issued an order for the deployment of 35 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various states and formations across the country. This decision is seen as a crucial step in ensuring effective policing, enhancing security, and maintaining law and order in Nigeria.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and was made available to the press in Abuja on Tuesday. According to Adejobi, the deployment comes following the approval of the Inspector-General’s recommendation by the Police Service Commission.
Among the newly posted commissioners are Adelesi Oluwarotimi for Kwara State, Adebola Hamzat for Oyo State, Augustina Ogbodo for Ebonyi State, Samuel Musa for Kebbi State, Aderemi Adeoye for Anambra State, Auwal Musa for Bauchi State, and Alamatu Mustapha for Ogun State.
Additionally, Margaret Ochalla will take charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit Annex in Lagos, while Banji Ogunrinde will head the Explosive Ordnance Unit. Rhoda Olofu will oversee the Ports Authority Police Western in Lagos, and Kareem Musa will be stationed at the Interpol Annex in Lagos. Others include Audu Dabigi, who will join the Border Patrol Force, and Abibo Reuben, who will serve in the Police Mobile Force.
The list goes on with Adekunle Olusokan assigned to Welfare at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Omolara Oloruntola overseeing the Special Fraud Unit at FCID Abuja, and Abaniwonda Olufemi appointed as the Deputy Force Secretary, among others.
The IGP has called on the newly deployed CPs to align themselves with his policies, vision, and mission for the Nigerian Police Force. He further emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety and well-being of citizens, while highlighting the need for fairness, professionalism, and respect for human rights.
Moreover, the IGP urged the CPs to lead by example and foster harmonious relationships with other security agencies, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders. He emphasized the promotion of intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention strategies, and community engagement initiatives that would enhance public trust and confidence in the police.
This recent development by the IGP is a clear indication of the Nigerian Police Force’s determination to tackle the security challenges facing the nation. Through the strategic deployment of experienced and capable CPs, both citizens and communities can have renewed confidence in the capacity of the police force to maintain law and order effectively.
