Kwara Assembly receives two executive bills from Gov Abdulrazaq

Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday received two executive bills from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for consideration and passage.

The bills are: Kwara State Education Trust Fund Amendment Bill 2023 and Environmental Protection Agency Amendment Bill 2023.

These were contained in separate messages from Governor Abdulrazaq addressed to the Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu and read during Tuesday’s plenary.

The governor said the Kwara State Education Trust Fund Amendment Bill aimed to amend the Law for more efficient management of the trust fund created by law to streamline membership of the board of trustees and staffing of the trust fund towards achieving cost savings and enhancing efficiency.

He noted that the Environmental Protection Agency Amendment Bill 2023 seeks to amend the principal law to increase the penalties for violation of certain offences created under the law.

According to the governor, the bill when passed, would increase the penalties for committing sanitation offences under Section 34-50 of the principal law, as culprits would be convicted or tried with maximum fine of N50,000 or six months imprisonment for individuals and N100,000 fine for corporate bodies

Governor Abdulrazaq urged the House to accord the two bills the usual prompt consideration and passage.

The two bills were read for the first time by Deputy Clerk of the House, Alhaji Kareem Olayiwola Ahmed during Tuesday’s plenary.

Speaker of the House, Engineer Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, thereafter, referred the bills to the House Committee on Rules and Business to slate them for second reading on the next legislative day.
