FG mulls mass local production of Lithium batteries, woos investors

The federal government is considering mass producing lithium batteries and renewable solutions.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, Dr Bashir Gwandu, disclosed this Monday during a visit by the management of LEMI Technology.

Gwandu stated that the government is vigorously open to partnership and investment with companies and institutions toward mass local production and domestication of lithium batteries.

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is seeking investors to collaborate with the Agency in the local production and domestication of Lithium batteries and renewable energy solutions.

“We are giving opportunities to partners to come and establish in Nigeria. It will be more attractive to companies that want to patronise our products. It will also help in domesticating these technologies”.

“So, we are inviting friends from Nigeria to come here and establish ourselves here. We are encouraging those who can come and produce locally. We will support them and ensure that the investment environment is encouraging.

“We will welcome any company who gets to us first,” adding that on the production of Lithium batteries, the agency was ready to partner with companies willing to establish their factories in Nigeria.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of LEMI Technology, Xie Feng, expressed the company’s willingness to partner with NASENI through MoU on renewable energy with particular reference to products like solar and television panels, inverters and battery production.
