Police confirm attack on Enugu division, say gunmen repelled

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the attack on a Divisional Police in the State.

Media Talk Africa earlier reported that the Isi-Uzo Divisional Police came under attack on Tuesday morning by unknown gunmen who reportedly carted away arms and ammunition.

In a statement made available by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, he blamed the attack on members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network, ESN.

According to Ndukwe, “Tactical Police Operatives of the Command are on the trail of armed hoodlums, suspected to be members of the outlawed IPOB/ESN group, who in their numbers today, 18/07/2023, at about 4.30am, attempted to attack Isi-Uzo Police Division of the Command, but were repelled by Police Operatives on duty.

“Many of the miscreants escaped with gunshot wounds, while one (1) of the Operatives who sustained a gunshot wound is receiving treatment and in stable condition.

“Further development shall be communicated, please.”
