The governor of Yobe State Mai Mala Buni has ordered the distribution of palliatives to physically-challenged persons in order to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that 500 persons living with disabilities have been provided with food items.
Mr Buni had directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to support the vulnerable persons with the food items.
The beneficiaries were provided with rice, maize, beans, spaghetti, salt and food seasoning cubes among others.
Mohammed Goje, the executive secretary of SEMA, said the distribution of the palliatives would be in phases, starting with the needy and most vulnerable group.
“His Excellency Gov. Buni directed that we start the distribution with the most needy group and gradually reach out to other groups” Mr Goje said.
Mr Buni had last week assured that government would provide palliatives to the people to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.
He said food items and other social needs like transportation would be addressed.
