2023 WWC: Australia captain disappointed by defeat to Super Falcons

Australia captain, Steph Catley can’t hide her disappointment following the Matildas 3-2 loss to the Super Falcons of Nigeria.

“Obviously extremely disappointed. I think this was a massive opportunity for us that we obviously let slide, but it’s tournament football, and this sort of thing happens. It was definitely not our best performance,” Catley said after the game.

“We created a lot of opportunities that we potentially could have finished – I haven’t seen the statistics, but I assume we had a fair few shots.

Nigeria moved to the top position in Group B with four points from two games.

Second-place Canada has similar points from the same number of matches but has an inferior goal difference.
Australia are third with three points from two games.
