Stand-up Comedy vs. Skit-making: Navigating the Challenges with Lasisi Elenu

Renowned comedian and skit maker, Nosa Afolabi, widely known as Lasisi Elenu, has shed light on the arduous nature of stand-up comedy in comparison to skit-making.

In an exclusive interview with Hip TV, the talented humorist, hailing from Kwara State, shared his insights into the financial disparities and the level of effort required for success in stand-up comedy as opposed to skit-making.

Lasisi Elenu explained, “Both mediums—stand-up comedy and skit-making—involve different dynamics. There is immense pressure in stand-up comedy, requiring performers to bring their A-game and have an arsenal of material at their disposal, in case one falls flat. Improvisation is crucial.”

“On the other hand,” he continued, “skit-making has become second nature to me; something I can do effortlessly at any given moment. Even in my sleep, I am ready to create. I know how to align myself with the demands of skit-making. Both avenues—stand-up comedy and skit-making—are lucrative. It all boils down to how smartly you navigate them. It’s not about the amount of work you put in, but rather the strategic approach you employ.”

“In essence,” Lasisi Elenu emphasized, “it’s not solely about producing an abundance of skit videos; it’s about effectively leveraging these videos, aligning them with the right audience, and branding them in a way that leads to financial rewards. Both skit-making and stand-up comedy have the potential to yield the desired financial gains.”
