Government Cannot Singlehandedly Finance Tertiary Education, Says Lagos Deputy Governor

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized that government alone is not capable of fully funding tertiary education.

Hamzat made this assertion during a courtesy visit to Professor Kayode Adebowale, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, on Wednesday.

During his visit, Hamzat served as the special guest of honor and keynote speaker at the 2021-2022 Nigerian Society of Engineers induction ceremony for graduate membership.

It is worth noting that Hamzat received both his first and second degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ibadan in 1986 and 1988, respectively.IMG 20230816 WA0010

Hamzat stated, “Government alone cannot fund tertiary education. In developed countries, the alumni provide support for the growth and development of their alma maters.”

“It becomes the responsibility of the alumni to ensure the sustainability of the university for the benefit of future generations,” he added.

In recognition of his accomplishments, VC Adebowale announced that Hamzat would be decorated as a [email protected] ambassador.
