The highly anticipated arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was unexpectedly adjourned on Thursday at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
In a surprising turn of events, the arraignment could not proceed as planned due to the absence of the second defendant, Saadat Yaro.
Mohammed Abubakar, the legal representative for the Federal Government and Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, informed Justice Hamza Muazu that Mrs. Saadat Yaro had fallen ill that morning, necessitating her absence from the proceedings.
Apologizing to the court, Abubakar requested a new date for the arraignment to take place.
Akinlolu Kehinde, a distinguished Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who was representing Emefiele, did not oppose the request for an adjournment.
Following these developments, Justice Muazu set August 23 as the new date for the arraignment.
Emefiele, who was brought to court by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) under tight security, was subsequently returned to their custody.
