Why Chelsea Opted Against Signing Neymar from PSG

Renowned football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, sheds light on Chelsea’s decision to forgo the opportunity to sign Neymar from PSG during the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old Brazilian international has recently made a move to Al-Hilal, a prominent club in the Saudi Pro League, where he will be joining forces with a cadre of esteemed European players.

Romano discloses that Chelsea made the choice not to pursue Neymar as they intend to place their trust in Mykhaylo Mudryk, a new acquisition who arrived at the club in a lucrative deal back in January.

“Though there have been reports of various elite European clubs declining the chance to sign Neymar, I personally believe that it is effortless to associate Neymar’s name with every rumor. As far as I am aware, neither Manchester City nor Manchester United engaged in discussions with Neymar,” Romano reveals.

“PSG offered Chelsea the opportunity to sign Neymar in June, but the club decided to go in a different direction, focusing on the recruitment of promising young talents. It was never a concrete option. The club’s inclination was to safeguard their investments in young prospects like Mykhaylo Mudryk,” Romano elucidates further in his exclusive piece for Caught Offside.
