Two Bauchi Civil Servants Dismissed for Financial Fraud

The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (BSCSC) has taken decisive action by terminating the employment of two senior civil servants for their alleged involvement in a N332,000 fraud scheme.

According to the commission, the accused individuals were apprehended by the police and subsequently arraigned before the State Magistrate Court on charges of “serious misconduct, forgery, and diversion of funds.”

The BSCSC has identified the dismissed officers as Nasiru Samaila, Chief Clerical Officer, and Auwal Jibrin, Assistant Clerical Officer of the Ministry of Finance.

It is worth noting that the commission recently terminated the appointment of Ibrahim Garba, an employee of the state pension board, for a similar offense, reinforcing their stance against corruption.

The dismissal of these civil servants was reported in a statement released by Saleh Umar, the Information Officer of the commission, on Friday.

During the 18th Plenary Session held on August 15, 2023, the BSCSC reached a unanimous decision to terminate the employment of the two officers.

The statement detailed that Samaila and Jibrin were found guilty of forging documents to facilitate the diversion of N332,000 belonging to Jibrin Adamu Zalanga, a former staff member of the Ministry of Finance who has since passed away. This action violates Section 327 of the Public Service Rules (PSR).

In response to individual queries from the ministry, both officers admitted to their participation in the fraudulent activities.

The chairman of the commission, Alh. Abubakar Usman, who presided over the session, expressed deep concern over the recurring cases of financial misconduct within the commission.

He implored all employees to approach their official duties with utmost integrity and a sense of accountability.
