Taraba to embark on aggressive tree-planting campaign

Plans are underway to kick off an aggressive tree-planting campaign in Taraba State to address some environmental challenges.

The Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Aishatu Barde, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Jalingo said the move was necessitated by the aftermath of the recent flood disaster in parts of the state.

Stressing that the governor has intensified efforts to bring relief materials to communities facing ecological challenges, Barde said the government has reached out to international partners, some of whom have indicated interest in partnering with the state on the project.

According to her, arrangements “are in top gear as the Taraba ACReSAL (project), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, is set for an aggressive tree-planting campaign in Jalingo, the state capital.”

She further disclosed that Governor Agbu Kefas has reached out to CUTEC E&E Limited, a German company, to help change the face of the state’s environment.

“In the meeting, the governor discussed environmental change, waste management and treatment, environmental laws, and accessibility to the carbon credit scheme by the German government and European Union,” she said.
