The tranquil village of Gidan Damo in Zamfara state was plunged into chaos on Wednesday night as armed bandits raided the community. According to Musa Mohammed, a resident of the village, the attackers abducted four women and four children, while leaving a trail of devastation behind them, with four innocent lives lost and numerous villagers injured.
Speaking in a phone interview with Media Talk Africa, Mohammed recounted the horrifying ordeal of the villagers, who scrambled for safety, unaware of what would befall the next person. He revealed that amidst the chaos, seven individuals were ruthlessly shot, and tragically, four succumbed to their injuries on the spot.
“In our desperate bid to escape, everyone fled in different directions, seeking refuge in the safety of the bush. No one had the luxury of waiting to see what transpired,” Mohammed said.
According to Mohammed, the bandits meticulously combed through each house, singling out their victims. As a result, four women and their children were forcibly taken into the depths of the forest.
“It was shortly after we had finished our Magrib prayers, just after seven o’clock on Wednesday night, that we suddenly heard a barrage of gunshots, signaling the arrival of the terrorists in our community,” recalled Mohammed.
Efforts to obtain a comment from ASP Yazeed Abdulahi, the State Police Public Relations Officer, proved fruitless, as he did not respond to calls.
