Commissioner Urges Student Nurses to Promote Health Awareness: A Call for Nursing Education Advocacy

The Commissioner for Health in Cross River State, Henry Egbe Ayuk, has emphasized the importance of student nurses and members of the National Association of Nigerian Student Nurses and Midwives in disseminating crucial healthcare information to the public. Ayuk urges them to utilize their education and training to promote health awareness, hygiene practices, family planning, environmental safety, and other beneficial health enlightenment initiatives.

Ayuk shared this advice during the conclusion of the association’s one-week annual celebration, which took place in Calabar on Sunday. In a prior meeting with the association, where they congratulated the commissioner and discussed their anniversary plans, Ayuk stressed that Cross River State is actively working towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The commissioner highlighted that for this ambitious vision to become a reality, it is imperative for all stakeholders in the health sector to support Governor Bassey Otu-led administration by engaging in public enlightenment, advocacy, and outdoor campaigns to gain public buy-in.

Assuring the student nurses of his solidarity, Ayuk expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Health to collaborate with the association in fostering health development for the betterment of society.

Speaking on behalf of the association, Blessing Ernest remarked that the weeklong event provided an invaluable platform for students from various Colleges of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery to come together, socialize, network, relax, and strategize for the advancement of nursing sciences and midwifery education in Cross River State and Nigeria as a whole.
